How to align the finderscope on a donsonian?
What is the easiest way to align a finder scope on a donsonian telescope. It is a Saxon.
Aligning your finderscope should be done in daylight. Ideally, you should choose a target that is low on the horizon. Here is how I aligned my finderscope on my 10" dob:
I pointed the scope at the top of a telephone pole that was about 200 meters away. I centered it in my eyepiece, with the transformer on the pole dead center in my eyepiece. I then switch over to my finderscope and make the adjustments to the horizontal and vertical orientation until the finderscope has the transformer in the center of its view. I make sure that the scope has not moved off course by checking the eyepiece again. Once your eyepiece and your finderscope are pointing at the same object and they both show the same location in the centers of their fields of view, your finderscope is aligned.

The easiest way to aim a telescope. The view seen through the window of the Telrad is continuous with the sky around it, not magnified or upside down.
