Celestron 114az
Celestron 114az
Which celestron astromaster is best for beginners?
I am considering:
- Astromaster 114eq
- Astromaster 130eq
- Astromaster 114az
- Astromaster 130az
Whats the difference between 'az' and 'eq'?
Which one would suit me best considering that I have never had a telescope.
Personally, I would not recommend any of them. Instead, you can get a better value for the money with something like this -

The 'eq' and 'az' terms stand for equatorial and altitude - azimuth (also known as 'alt-az'). Which are types of ways to point the telescope. For starting out, get the alt-az style of mounts, since you have more then enough to learn.
A really good place to find out about this stuff, is with a book called "Nightwatch" by Terrence Dickinson.

The next best alternative is to find an astronomy club in your local area. Joining a club helps shorten the learning curve and shows you what other folks use for equipment - trying before buying is a good way to go here.
